SmartPager Replaces HIPAA Compliant Texting With Integrated Solution

SmartPager has been working closely with customers over the past two years to evolve its products and platform to address the risks, pain and complexity of practice communications – not only including HIPAA Compliant Texting, but also modernizing both Answering Services and On-Call Scheduling in a converged platform that is open and transparent to healthcare organizations` existing systems.

Smartphones have reached an adoption rate of close to 90% amongst physicians, creating an opportunity for optimized healthcare delivery.  While many of today`s secure texting applications provide enhanced security to regular texting, they have several shortcomings which include lack of workflow, lack of policy, and uncertain reliability.  HIPAA texting applications also neglect voice communications. Experts cite verbal exchanges between patients, doctors, and other healthcare providers as a critical element for safe and efficient care delivery.

The latest product release by SmartPager is a pager replacement and allows healthcare organizations to institute practice-wide communications policies including provider on-call schedules and escalation policy for both voice and text communications.  In addition, communications can now be automatically logged to the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), an important capability that creates new billing opportunities, reduces data entry time for providers and improves patient safety.

SmartPager also connects patients. The latest SmartPager release integrates with the company’s SmartAnswer medical answering service allowing patients to connect with healthcare organizations over the web or by telephone, eliminating costly and error prone answering services.

“All of the healthcare systems we are working with are looking beyond secure messaging into new models of provider and patient engagement.”  Says company CEO Ben Moore.  “It is going to be a very exciting year in 2014 as we watch this transformation in healthcare communications unfolding”

SmartPager is a privately held company with offices in Victoria, British Columbia and Seattle, Washington.
